Chelsea believe Alonso's presence will strengthen their ability to recruit players who can improve the first team immediately and also convince key stars to stay with the club. Three players who could benefit from Alonso's leadership are Marc Cucurella, Enzo Fernandez, and Cole Palmer.
Alonso has stated that he wants to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies. As manager, he will work closely with the sporting directors and club hierarchy on recruitment decisions and planning for the summer rebuild.
Goalkeeper is a position Chelsea have viewed as a problem area for some time. If they decide not to continue with Robert Sanchez as first choice, Mike Maignan remains an option, but there is also interest in highly-rated Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders, who impressed on loan at Strasbourg.
Defensively, Chelsea are considering significant changes, with targets including Maxence Lacroix, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Marcos Senesi from the Premier League. However, they also admire Ousmane Diomande at Sporting CP and have closely monitored Joel Ordonez at Club Brugge.
