Udinese, on the other hand, looked threatening on the counter-attack and took the lead in the 27th minute with a surprising goal. Nicolo Zaniolo made a run down the field and found Arthur Atta, whose shot was deflected off Davide Bartesaghi before going past Mike Maignan in the far post.
AC Milan tried to respond with a goal, but Christian Pulisic's shot from the edge of the box sailed just wide of the post. However, Udinese quickly doubled their lead when Jurgen Ekkelenkamp outjumped Zachary Athekame in the box and headed the ball past Maignan from a cross by Zaniolo.
Udinese's second goal made it difficult for AC Milan to come back, and the team was unable to score in the remaining time.
